Saudi Architecture Map: A New Path to Quality of Life

June 29, 2025

In mid-Ramadan 2025, His Royal Highness Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz launched the Saudi Architecture Map, which defines nineteen architectural styles inspired by the Kingdom’s geographic and cultural characteristics. This initiative forms part of his efforts to celebrate Saudi Arabia’s built heritage, enhance quality of life, and advance the urban landscape of Saudi cities in line with the objectives of Vision 2030.

The Crown Prince described Saudi architecture as a reflection of the Kingdom’s cultural and geographic diversity, noting that it supports the development of sustainable urban environments that harmonize with the local context and apply traditional architectural forms in modern ways.

“The Saudi Architecture Map is a fusion of our rich heritage and contemporary design,” he said. “We are working to improve the urban fabric and elevate quality of life, striking a balance between past and present, and creating a global source of inspiration for architectural innovation.”

The Saudi Architecture Map aims to diversify the Kingdom’s built environment, enhance its urban character, and empower domestic capabilities. It is expected to contribute more than SAR 8 billion to cumulative GDP and to create over 34,000 direct and indirect jobs in engineering, construction, and urban development by 2030.

The map outlines various architectural elements drawn from the identities of Saudi regions and adapted to the country’s different environments. It encourages the use of locally sourced, sustainable building materials to minimize environmental impact. It also designates the first cities and areas where these guidelines will be implemented, with plans for future expansion.

Ultimately, the map seeks to preserve Saudi Arabia’s rich architectural heritage and reinforce national identity by integrating traditional motifs into modern design. It is anticipated to stimulate the construction sector and generate new employment opportunities.
